As with any competition Kimmie is involved in, I usually don't watch until after I've read about the results; or I can fast forward my "Tivo" to the scores to see her standings. Then I decide how to watch that particular event. But this competition was unusual, I had no choice but to endure the anticipation of being in the crowd; part of it. However, it was still too nerve wrecking to watch.

Kimmie was the last to skate. Once she had performed, she sat patiently awaiting her scores. However, her body language spelled anticipation; meanwhile, the commentators, while the viewers and the audience were on an edge, felt compelled to comment on Kimmie's past performances, from the good ones to her recent "disasters." Soon everyone stood, wondering what was taking so long; I heard some people say that they were tabulating the scores, while others said they were counting her jumps. This part alone should have told me something was strange because this is not the norm.

A reporter came to the crowd speaking on behalf of Kimmie, proudly saying how he knew she had it in her, when another one of Kimmie's fans pulled out a recent article written by this fellow discrediting Kimmie. Anticipation had kept me from watching Kimmie's actual performance. It meant too much. However, my gut reaction was that she had won! I started to dance around, some people chanted with me, others clapped. While some glared. The scores had not come out yet. However, there was this feeling in me that she had won! After all she is a winner!

Soon after the party had simmered down, there was a disquiet in the large arena; Kimmie was being interviewed. She had regained her "World Title." It was exhilarating.

Customer Review: good but some disappointment
dance steps are fine and not too difficult but steps are done to a percussion beat rather than to tunes and real latin music. I really prefer music and so this doesn't feel like dancing, just exercising, and therefore isn't as much fun.
Customer Review: Not what I expected !!
I am a fan of salsa music and i thought that this dvd would be fun to try and put in a part of my work outs. The instructor was just wayyyy too much. too loud , too hyper. she came off very corny at times. lol. the video is just dumb. i dont know ,i just found her annoying. The music was good and all but i just cant take her. I dont do this video often. Once in a blue. It really wasnt as good as thought it was gonna be. i have other crunch video but come on now. they need better instructors.

The Collected Poems of Octavio Paz, 1957-1987: Bilingual Edition

tr Weinberger, w/Bishop, Blackburn, Levertov et al
Customer Review: Collected Poems of Octavio Paz
This is an excellent edition of the collected poems of Octavio Paz, with English translations facing the Spanish originals. I purchased this as a gift for my Spanish teacher and she was delighted! My favorites are his poems written when he served as a Mexican diplomat in India and Japan. His sensitive mind absorbed the nuances of place and religion, which are recreated for us in the poems. His efforts at haiku en espagnol are enlightening, pun intended.
Customer Review: excellent poetry
I bought this book after reading an excerpt of one of Paz's poems at a camp. I didn't know what poem it was from, so I bought the book and scoured it until I found the poem. It was Brotherhood. The poetry is beautiful and moving. It is the type of poetry you can read and enjoy no matter if you understand what it is saying, the writing is that beautiful

Ibiza has always held the reputation of being THE place for clubbers to descend on in the summer seasons. Between the months of May and September, Ibiza (the smallest Baelaric island) is transformed from quiet resort into the clubber's paradise the name is synonymous with. In recent years, there have been suggestions that the island is losing its reputation as the clubbing 'Mecca', but thankfully a recent poll of top DJs really puts this to bed. The world's biggest DJs voted on their top 50 clubs to perform at and Ibiza clubbing has a far better representation than such a small island should have! In terms of quality club density, it would be pretty hard to beat the island, with 5 Ibiza clubs in the top 50 and with 4 of those featured in the top 10!
From these results, it should be pretty easy for me to list the DJ's top 5 clubs in Ibiza, so without further ado, here it is in reverse order:

5. Privelege (36th in the world)

According to the Guinness Book of Records, Privelege is not just the biggest club in Ibiza, but also the world. This will come as no surprise to people who have visited the breathtaking venue. Spectacular light effects are made all the more impressive by the 25 metre ceiling, and it even houses a huge swimming pool. The real beauty of this Ibiza club is that due to its size, the venue changes every night - the dcor is different to fit the club night, making for a slightly disorienting experience for those with a hazy memory of the night before! As with other top Ibiza clubs, tourists can expect to share a dance floor with some big names - in the past, Privilege has been patronised by Madonna, Jean-Paul Gautier, Puff Daddy and Jade Jagger...

4. Amnesia (8th in the world)

Founded in 1976, Amnesia is viewed as legendary by the Ibiza clubbing scene. Although it is no longer open air, the venue has made the loss acceptable by replacing the freedom with volume! If Privelege was all about the building itself, Amnesia is all about the sound system and the effect it has. Cocoon's techno Mondays provide sonic innovation aplenty, while Cream's Ibiza music is legendary. Residency is provided by the aforementioned Cream, Made in Italy and Armin Van Buuren.

3. DC10 (7th in the world)

In terms of dcor, this is striking if not particularly aesthetically appealing - DC10 is a converted airport hanger (the club contains giant inflatable aeroplanes in homage to this heritage), which creates an amazing atmosphere with interesting acoustics. And because of its size, the Ibiza club can hold a massive 1500 revellers each night creating an atmosphere that's unforgettable - it's unsurprising the DJs in the poll valued it so much. The resident DJs are Jo Mills, CLoco Dice and Cirillo.

2. Pacha (3rd in the world)

Although Pacha is the name for a chain of nightclubs across Europe, it is the Ibiza club that has become synonymous with the brand. Opened in 1973, the club is one of the most famous on the island and has a capacity of 3,500 - which is just as well as the nights like 'Pure Pacha' really test the capacity, with top DJs such as Pete Tong hosting proceedings during the peak summer months. House music is the type most associated with the famous Ibiza club, but it actually has five separate rooms with distinctive musical stylings. One final aspect worth noting is that Pacha is the only club to stays open during the winter season, which is well worth remembering if you're trying to save some cash with a cheap holiday to Ibiza in winter.

1. Space (1st in the world)

It's hardly surprising that Space is regarded as the world's best night club. Ibiza's favourite has won all kinds of awards - as well as the accolade voted by the DJs this year, the nightclub was awarded the 'best club in the world' award at the 2001 Dancestar awards, and won 'best global club' at the International Dance Music Awards in 2005 and 2006. Space is most famous for pioneering its "We Love Sundays @ Space" events, which really test the endurance of clubbers. Ibiza's revellers will find the doors opening at 8am on Sunday morning, and closing again at 6am on Monday! The atmosphere is what makes the club great, and that in turn attracts top name DJs throughout the summer. The venue allows clubbing Ibiza tourists and residents to rave until the sun comes up on the outdoor terrace - which was moved (stone by stone) to the other side of the club to stop upsetting the neighbours!

With plenty of smaller, lesser known venues dotted around Ibiza, clubbing is set to be the focus of tourism to the island for some time to come. Certainly, you cannot call yourself a proper clubber until you've taken in a cheap Ibiza holiday.

Coldplay - X and Y

Note-for-note transcriptions with tab for all 13 songs from the 2005 release by these British rockers: Fix You * The Hardest Part * Low * A Message * Speed of Sound * Square One * Swallowed in the Sea * Talk * Til Kingdom Come * Twisted Logic * What If * White Shadows * XandY.
Customer Review: No Regrets
A lot easier than going and finding it in the store and in the same great condition. I was very pleased and completely satisfied with my order. Amazon ftw!
Customer Review: Missing TABs?
Am I crazy or is the book I received today completely missing the electric guitar's TAB for "Swallow the Sea?" It's clearly on the album, but the only TAB I see for it in this book is for the acoustic guitar that plays throughout. That second part is nowhere to be found! I have contacted Hal Leonard about this, but not heard back. What is going on here?! Aside from this obvious blunder, this is a great purchase...but it's incomplete!

Hip hop dancing is an urban ethnic dance form that has gained popularity in recent days. It is more common than the break dance of modern days. Hip hop dancing marked its beginning as part of the hip hop culture in the early 1900's, when the youth in and around Bronx, New York started dancing on the streets.

Hip hop dancing is an ideal way to express one's creativeness. It features self impressions and the dances come from the soul. The dancing represents body movements that go with the beat and rhythm of hip hop music. There is breaking, popping, locking, and free styling in hip hop dances. The jumps, breakages, and rotations in the movements are combined in such a way that the dance style becomes an informal and explosive one.

Hip hop dancing is considered a good exercise for those persons who perform these dances. It helps the dancers to improve flexibility, to develop body balance, and to coordinate the muscles. This dance allows the dancers to improve their own style and to remain in good body shape. It also leads the dancers to a state of spiritual wholeness.

Hip hop dancing includes many steps and movements that are not present in ballet and ballroom dancing. The jazz, ballet, and other traditional dance forms are technical and require more formal training. There is a term for each and every movement in jazz and ballets. But this is not the case with hip hop dancing and the dancers experience freedom while dancing. The only thing the dancers should have is to become familiar with the dancing technique.

Hip hop dancing can be learned by all those who are interested in dancing. There is no age limitation or restriction for learners and dancers. It is also not necessary that the instructor should be a professional dancer. However, this kind of dance is slightly difficult to learn because of the various body movements.

Hip Hop provides detailed information on Hip Hop, Hip Hop And Rap, Hip Hop Music, R&B Hip Hop and more. Hip Hop is affiliated with Karaoke Music.

Mystery

Unlike the previous two albums, the new album is not instrumental, but rather lyrical and more song oriented. The project features thirteen tracks ranging from moody synthesized phrases, screeching guitars, and pulsating drums all the way to harmonious vocal lines.

It may come as a surprise for people who are not very involved in personalizing their mobile phones that choosing a ringtone can be a very tiresome and confusing task. Why? Because of the sheer amount of choices that a mobile phone user has to wade through in order to get the ringtone that he wants.

First of all, he has to consider what type of ringtone he wants to use. Does he want the old school monotone ringtone that was made popular by the early Nokia mobile phones? These are the ringtones that play melodies one note after the other. He may also choose a polyphonic ringtone, which is a more melodic choice compared to the drab monotone ringtone. Of course, if his mobile phone is capable of supporting it (which most new models can) he can opt to use music ringtones, which are actual pre-recorded pieces of the actual music. This is the best available ringtone type out there and is the acknowledged favorite, especially among people who really love music.

Having gone through the ringtone types, the choice just gets wider. There are so many companies online that are specializing in bringing ringtones to your mobile phone that each one would offer unique ringtones that would catch the attention of consumers and hopefully entice them to buy the ringtone. But aside from the many companies out there, a mobile phone user has to choose from so many available genres of ringtones available, especially those for music ringtones. The choices are so varied and so many that one would be hard pressed to choose which ones a mobile phone user would like to install on his phone as a ringtone.

Some of the most popular ringtone genres are:

Funny ringtones - These are ringtones with an obvious comedy bent. These could be hilarious one liners, missives or dialogues. It is not uncommon to hear funny ringtones that try to parody certain scenes in famous movies or TV shows or maybe even funny sounds.

Bollywood ringtones - These ringtones are all about the magic that is brought by Indian films. Indian films are a strange and wonderful film genre. The formula that Indian films follow are quite different. Whether it be drama, comedy or even action, a movie will not be complete without song and dance numbers. Most Indians believe that a movie without this element makes it incomplete. These fun-filled Bollywood songs are now considered as great ringtones because it exudes the tongue-in-cheek fun and bombastic romp of those crazy Indian films.

Music ringtones - Music is by far the most popular ringtone genre that mobile phone users prefer. Every single person has a particular song or type of music that he loves and these preferences can act as great ringtones. Of course, music ringtones have as many genres as there are different types of music out there. Whether you like pop, rock, reggae, or even classical,, there most likely be a ringtone that you can download or buy online. Based on a recent study, the most popular genre that mobile phone users choose as ringtones are music in the rap/hip hop category.

Philip Nicosia is the webmaster of GetMeRingtones, a site specialising in the different genres of ringtones, including polyphonic ringtones, and MP3 ringtones.

Sonido Amazonico!

Chicha is the name of a corn-based liquor the Incas distilled in the days before The Conquest, and the word's mysterious, boozy etymology makes it perfect for the musical style that bears its name. Chicha - the music - was spontaneously distilled during the culture clash of the '60s when the Indian population of the Peruvian Amazon blended Columbian cumbias with American rock & roll, particularly the twang heavy sound of surf music. With cheap electric instruments, Amazon Indians used the syncopated beat of cumbia as the foundation for melodies that sound to western ears like Andean folk music played on electric guitar supported by Tex-Mex style Farfisa. When the Indians moved to Lima, chicha became a thriving subgenre, but since the 70s the style has been dying out. Olivier Conan, owner of New York's Barbés nightclub and record label, discovered the music on a 2005 trip to Peru. In 2007, he put out a compilation called The Roots of Chicha. The music so captivated New York's downtown crowd that he put together Chicha Libre, a combo comprised of New York's musical scene makers, and started playing the old hits, and some new compositions, to packed houses. Part of the charm of the old chicha recordings had to do with their distorted, lo-fi approach, something that you can't match in a Manhattan recording studio. Nonetheless, Sonido Amazonico!, named after a hit by the chicha band Los Mirlos, is a sunny, upbeat collection guaranteed to bring a silly smile to your face. Vincent Douglas' plays a twangy guitar and Josh Camp plays a rare Hohner Electravox, an accordion-like instrument that sounds like a 70s Farfisa, anchor the band's timeless sound (the Electrovox is an electric hybrid; no air passes through it).

Like reggae, the chicha groove is so recognizable, and flexible, that almost any style of music can be played using it. The playing here has a lightness and humor that the originals lacked, but Chicha Libre's not making any claims about being authentic or keeping a lost tradition alive. They're playing it for kicks, and they supply plenty of 'em. ~ j. poet, All Music Guide

Ask any singer, no matter how successful, and they will tell you that they get nervous before a performance. It's a fact of life. There are so many facets to getting up and singing a song in front of an audience that it's impossible to be totally sure that everything will go well. The key to being a confident singer is to find ways to accept this fact, to feel the fear and do it anyway. There are numerous techniques that can help calm frayed nerves and a pounding heart. Here are a few ideas.

Be Prepared

One of the most important ways to remove doubts before a performance is to make sure you are properly prepared. Unlike exams, it's not possible to cram your learning into a few hours the night before - that would simply guarantee a tired voice and lacklustre performance. So it's vital to practice and learn everyday for a period of time before the day of the performance. This is going to make you feel confident in your ability to actually remember the song. If you have never performed to an audience before, part of that preparation could be to perform in front of a friend or a relative - it might feel a bit uncomfortable, but it will go along way towards preparing you for the big day. Try not to look at your music just before you go on this will just make you more nervous.

Warm Up

It's absolutely essential to warm up before a concert or performance. This will boost your confidence by letting you know the voice is working well. You should aim to get your lungs and diaphragm going as well as the vocal chords, plus a bit of stretching to wake up the whole body. Try 5 to 10 minutes of gentle warm-up exercises, done a little while before the performance, ideally 2 or 3 times throughout the day - try not to overdo it as you might end up tiring your voice.

Relax

There are plenty of relaxation techniques which can help reduce jittery nerves. These are great to do just before a performance to enable you to approach the event in a calmer way. Find one to suit you, but try to keep it short, so that you don't panic about time and add to your stress. Including shoulder and neck relaxing exercises is helpful. If you don't have time to search for a particular technique, just try deep breathing. For example, breathe in slowly and fully, being aware of your diaphragm then breathe out as slowly and completely as you can.

Deal with Your Thoughts

There is no doubt that our own thoughts can be the main obstacle to confident singing. All sorts of unhelpful self-critical thoughts can rise up as we anticipate the performance ahead. Some of my own thoughts have included: "What if I make a mistake", "The audience might dislike me", "Maybe I'm not as good as I think I am", "I don't want to let anyone down". A lot of people swear by positive thinking, for example, repeating statements such as "I am a great singer who performs with skill,"or "I sing with ease and confidence." I believe this can be very helpful. Personally, I have found the following technique to be very effective. When a negative thought makes you feel nervous and anxious, ask yourself "Who would I be without this thought?", then imagine how you would be without the self limiting beliefs that sabotage your confidence - when you do this be as imaginative as you can. An example answer to the above question could be, "I would be free to give my all to this performance, to soar, to sing with all my heart, to make the song truly beautiful and unique. I would not worry about the audience."

Remember that stage fright and nerves are to be expected. So don't fight them, instead, use them to give yourself the energy your performance needs. I believe this is the key to being a confident singer. In time you will find your own special "rituals" to help keep calm and I hope the above tips will help you to perform at your very best.

London-born Helen Astrid has a remarkable knowledge and talent for teaching people how to sing, from complete beginners with stage fright to professionals in the music industry. In her latest book, Singing Tips at your Finger Tips, she reveals cutting-edge techniques which will not only improve confidence, but will transform your voice. After much thought, I have decided to do something new for my fans. So, I shall answer that question here with some guidance and suggestions. Be sure to check in, or better yet, subscribe to my blog if you wish to keep in contact with me and/or follow my career.

I shall covers topics of vital importance to anyone who wants to break into the music business and become a pop star or recording artist. Some people choose to pursue both sides of the aisle, while some choose to be either a pop star or a recording artist. I shall write this article for either.

Your Singing Voice

Singers come in all types of skills and talents. Patti Labelle and Mariah Carey, for example, have an enormous vocal range and dead-on technical ability, but there are singers, like Madonna and Janet Jackson, who don't have the same technical ability or range, but have had long and successful careers. Despite your talents and technical abilities, you can have a long a successful career, too.

The first thing to remember here is that you don't have to have to be a Patti Labelle or a Mariah Carey in order to have a career as a singer. The important thing is not to measure yourself in terms of other people, but to make the best of the abilities and talents that you have.

The best way to improve your singing voice is to take voice lessons from a vocal coach. There is a science to singing and techniques that have been developed using that science. These things like methods of proper breathing, placement of your voice, hearing and pitch, how to extend your range, and how to keep from damaging your vocal cords are just some of the techniques you will have to manage. A good vocal coach will help you put these techniques into action to help you get the most from your singing voice.

When to Get a Vocal Coach

Now, getting a vocal coach to help you get your singing career off to a good start. Once you've been signed to a record company, maybe they will pay to have you work with a vocal coach. Nevertheless, I think that it is worth it to invest in vocal coaching in advance. But, there are a couple factors you need to consider.

Let me share them with you: The first factor to consider is whether or not your voice is capable of handling the demands of your type of music. There is a big difference in the vocal requirements of different styles of music. The way you would use your voice as a gospel singer is a lot different than the way you would use it as a rapper.

* If you're having difficulty meeting the vocal demands for your style of music, then you will need to invest in some voice lessons right away. I say right away because that is what you will have to do if you're serious about getting your career started and having it become successful.

* If you have serious problems with your pitch, such as singing flat or sharp often, then consider a vocal coach to help you.

* Also, if you have an extremely limited range, don't think a record company will sign you right away. You will need to work on it so that you will have an extended range.

* If you notice that your voice gets fatigued quickly, you will need lessons to learn to strengthen it. Some signs of vocal fatigue include your voice cracks, your throat feels strained, your natural vocal range diminishes, and you get hoarse easily.

* Final factor to consider: If you, your closest friends, and your family think you are tone-deaf, then it's time to think seriously about getting a vocal coach. Tone-deafness is an inability to accurately reproduce a note of music. People who are tone deaf always sing off-key, no matter how hard they try. Tone deafness is not very common; what is common is a tendency for singers to go a bit flat or sharp sometimes (instead of all the time).

A vocal teacher can tell you if you are actually clinically tone-deaf. Most likely you are not and you simply need to work on improving your hearing and pitch. Voice lessons can help tremendously. A big part of the process is learning how to hear and reproduce notes accurately with your voice.

Finding Your Vocal Coach

I hope that it has been helpful to you so far. Remember, it is just my brief thoughts and comments on building your career in the music business. If you're truly serious about having such a career, then I strongly recommend that you get the music guide that I'll mention at the end. Now, here are my comments for today.

The best way to find a good vocal coach is through word-of-mouth within the music community. Other singers are the best sources for reliable information on who's good. Talk to singers active in your local scene, call universities with music programs and music instruction schools in your area, contact music industry organizations, check with choir members from your local churches.

The top vocal coaches in the music business can be expensive ($100/hour and up), but it is possible to find reasonably priced voice lessons. Music instruction schools and lesser-known private instructors are your best bet.

One important thing to remember about voice lessons and vocal coaches: there are quite a few different methods and techniques that can be used for voice training. The method used depends on the teacher. To get the most bang for your buck, monitor yourself closely. Is your voice getting stronger? Is your vocal range getting wider? Are you getting better at consistently singing on key? If several months go by and you aren't seeing any improvement in your problem areas, you may need to switch teachers.
