School fashion shows can be quite fun if done properly. If done the wrong way, however, it could end up being one boring affair which is only occasionally enlivened by the people laughing at a humiliated model. What you need are some tips to help you.

1) Think of a theme When putting up a school fashion show, it is always helpful if you use a theme. A theme gives a fashion show a sense of organization and people would be able to relate the fashion to the theme. There are various types of themes to choose from:

a) Season Basing your school fashion show on the season is always popular. You could design and model various outfits that correspond with the time of year. This would also give you an idea of how to decorate the venue. Basing your school fashion show on a season can help you unleash your creativity and make your brain cells work. How can you balance the freedom of creativity with the confinement of the theme? This will definitely help you improve your skills.

b) Literature Another great idea for a theme is literature. You should think about basing your school fashion show on a great piece of literature. How about basing it on the book The Great Gatsby? Ever tried creating fashion pieces for Frodo? This can be fun as you will be bringing the visions of authors to life. Basing your school fashion show on a piece of literature can also be a bit easier than other themes since most authors actually have pretty detailed descriptions of the clothes their character wear. This is especially true for fantasy novels. Cloaks, anyone?

2) Music The music sets the mood for the whole fashion show. It strikes the subconscious of the watchers and thus, determines how much attention they will be paying your school fashion show. This means, of course, that you need to choose the correct sounds to accompany your school fashion show.

You need to choose music that grabs the attention of the spectators enough to mesmerize them. However, you do not want the music to distract the spectators from the school fashion show. The best type of music to use would be instrumental. This is because instrumental music can set the mood for the show without distracting the viewers with familiar lyrics.

3) Lighting Proper lighting effects are always essential if you want to have a great school fashion show. Together with the background music, the lighting effects give the audience a general emotion to feel. How do you want them to react when they see a certain ensemble? You can make them react as you want them by simply combining light and sound.

4) Spontaneity Students hate predictability. Because of this, the best thing that your school fashion show could have is a surprise. You need to show your students something unexpected and completely new. In doing so, you will be able to grab their attentions and keep it. By being spontaneous, you will keep spectators guessing as to what will come next. This will keep their eyes on the school fashion show and off their watches and mobile phones. If you can make the audience forget about the gadgets on their pockets, then you would know that your school fashion show rocks!

"Coldplay" (Easy Guitar Tab)

Regardless of whether you are playing a gig or practising, you should always make sure you tune your acoustic guitar before playing it. There is nothing worse than a guitar that is out of tune and for a beginner this can be very frustrating so it is very important understand the importance of acoustic guitar tuning. The few moments it takes tune the guitar can really make a difference so it is very worthwhile to do.

If you use an electronic tuner you will get the best results if you are a beginner. It has a build in mic which picks up the sound with an indicator using a flashing light or meter telling you how close you are to the right pitch or whether a sound is too flat or too sharp. All you then do is adjust your acoustic guitar tuning accordingly by turning the string's tuning key.

You always tune your guitar from looser to tighter until it is in tune. This is also known as tuning up. Should you be too tight play the string a bit first before unwinding it or tuning down. It works much better if you loosen it by playing it a bit before tightening it again as it will give you much more accurate results and helps the string hold its tuning for longer.

Even if you are capable to do acoustic guitar tuning by ear you should always have a reference pitch at hand. If you have another second hand guitar, piano or tuning fork this could do an ok job, but an electronic tuner will give you more accurate results. Also if you are practising to learn to tune by ear, checking up on the electronic tuner to compare helps you train your ear better.

When you start to tune your guitar, start off tuning the thickest string (the sixth one) to low E. As soon as this string sounds right you can start tuning the other strings using that note as a reference point. This technique works and with good reason although it would take too long to explain why. Suffice to say that acoustic guitar tuning is just like knowing how to drive. You don't need to know all the mechanical aspects of how a car drives to be able to drive it. In the same way you don't need to know anything about music theory to be able to tune your guitar.

Here is a short summary how how to do your acoustic guitar tuning:

  1. Strum (in tune) the sixth string on the fifth fret. Tune the open fifth string to that exact note.
  2. Strum the fifth string on the fifth fret. Tune the open fourth string to the same note.
  3. Tune the fourth string on the fifth fret. Tune the open third to the same note.
  4. Follow closely; this is different than the above. Play the third string on the fourth fret and tune the open second string to this note.
  5. Play the second string on the fifth fret and tune your open first string to this note.

If you have just started out with acoustic guitar tuning, you might be better off to ask an expert from say the store where you bought your guitar to show how to tune the right way. Then practice, practice and then practice some more, as this is the only way to learn acoustic guitar tuning especially if you want to master how to do it by ear.

For novices it is best to start off using an electronic tuner when starting off doing acoustic guitar tuning. At around $20 they are moderately cheap to buy and well worth it as they are made specifically for this purpose and can identify what strings are being played making life much easier for beginners.

Ivan Calderwell writes on how to learn acoustic guitar tuning as well as everything there is to know on how to learn to play acoustic guitar. For more news, products and resources on this beautiful and melodic instrument, be sure to follow this link: acoustic guitar shops.

A Taste of Salsa, Volume I

In Volume I, Lisa and Andres present the steps and turns at a pace you can keep up with. They share the "how to's" and "how not to's" for proper lead and follow technique and detail the connecting pieces that are too often left out. In addition, equal attention is paid to both the leads and follows so that you become a dynamic couple and a solid individual dancer. As a result, your Salsa steps will feel more natural and your confidence will grow. This is just the thing for a non-dancer ready to take on their burning dancing desire!

In this volume, the following steps are introduced: Basic step Hand positions - Palms Up and Palms Down Body positions - Open and Closed Side to side step Swing step Transitioning between the positions and variations Combining variations Basic turn combination. Numerous practice combinations

With a bit of practice, you will soon become a Salsero.

Instruction for all volumes in the A Taste of Salsa series is given in both English and Spanish.

The next tape in the series, Volume II, introduces more advanced turning combinations, new ways of moving across the floor and focuses more on styling.
Customer Review: Great basics
If you are a novice and looking to learn in a correct and structured way, these videos (Vol I & II) are very sound and easy to understand. The videos are introductory, so if you already know the basics, perhaps they are not for you. Don't pay attention to the criticism of those who weren't smart enough to read the description and look for more information about the videos from the internet or the instructors' website. The videos are clearly labeled basic. That's why they are titled "A Taste of...." I gave it four stars because even though the intent is to make the tapes universal by making them bilingual, it does tend to slow the lessons a bit. Why not use subtitles for the alternate language?
Customer Review: Save your money!
This has got to be one of the worst Salsa instructional videos I have purchased to date. For the price you get very little. It is repetative and annoying. You only learn 3 steps. I would definately not recommend this video to a beginner.

The conga drum is widely used in many countries around the globe but is believed to have mainly originated in both Africa and Cuba, and is often called the Afro-Cuban drum or Afro-Cuban barrel-shaped drum. Today, congas, which are played either singly or using several drums, are a large part of Latino-American music, and those who play this unique instrument are referred to as congueros.

Conga drums are narrow, tall, and have varying widths ranging from nine inches across the drumhead to 14 inches across, with the size affecting the sound and pitch of the drums. Larger congas are used for playing lower, deeper rhythms, while the smaller, or quinto drums are used for playing the melodies. When playing several conga drums together, they most often are tuned to one particular chord.

In English, the word conga is used to refer to the single-headed drum, and congas for sets of three individual drums, which includes a higher pitched drum known as the quinto, the lowest pitched called the tumbadora, and the medium-sized drum, called either the conga or the segundo. However, throughout Cuba, the Spanish name tumbadora, which is a more accurate term, is commonly used to describe the drums and is more widely used rather than conga or congas. In Cuba, the word conga is only used when describing drums that are specifically played during Carnaval, which is similar to the annual Mardi Gras celebration in the United States.

Conga drums are typically made from woods such as oak, ash, or beech, although the fiberglass congas of today are gaining in popularity as they can be more durable and are usually far less expensive. Although, many professional congueros who have mastered the techniques still prefer the traditional wooden congas, stating that the sounds produced are warmer and richer than with the newer fiberglass sets.

Congas made from ash wood tend to produce more resonant tones, while oak models are said to give a warmer sound along with reducing overtones that are similar to those made when using synthetic materials.

Today drumheads are also made from synthetic materials, although traditionally, heads made from cowhide were used for the most melodious of sounds, while in more modern times, water buffalo hide was the preferred material of choice to create crisper, cleaner tones.

Typically, buffalo skins are more expensive while other rawhide drumheads are generally found on the less pricier congas. Synthetic heads created to mimic the sounds of natural materials may be beneficial to the more inexperienced player as they produce a brighter, louder tone when played, and also tend to be more durable.

As with any type of musical instrument, craftsmanship and the best materials are of the utmost importance. The use of quality materials and finely honed skills will produce a better set of drums that's not only easier to tune or play, but one that will also sound better. Even beginners are encouraged to purchase a well-made set of congas that will still be sufficient as their experience grows and their skills increase.

Played with both hands using the fingertips and the palms of the hands, congas produce a wide variety of sounds that can be loosely described as either open or muffled tone, slap, open or muffled slap, bass tone, fingers, or palm. Experts recommend learning how to invoke the many different sounds before mastering hand coordination, and then finally concentrating on the rhythm aspect of playing conga drums.

The open tone stroke is played using four fingers, striking close to the rim of the drumhead which produces a clear, distinct sound. The muffled tone stroke, similar to the open tone, is also made using four fingers, but then involves keeping the fingers against the drumhead to muffle the sound produced. For a low, more muted sound, opt for the bass tone stroke using the full palm of the hand to strike the drumhead.

The most well known rhythm for congas is known as the tumbao, which uses a 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2 rhythm with the first two played with muffled tones, and the latter using open tones. Another most popular rhythm is called the bolero rhythm (1-2-3, 1-2, 1-2-3) which uses two congas and has most recently been heard on songs by artists such as Andrea Bocelli in Besame Mucho and Luis Miguel in La Puerta.

Some of the most widely known congueros are Desi Arnez, who was the influence behind the naming of a small conga known as the "Ricardo" from his television role, Candido Camero, Giovanni Hidalgo, Arsenio Rodriguez, and Poncho Sanchez. Many types of modern music, including jazz, Latin jazz, salsa, mambo, and rumba, still rely on conga drums to keep the beat and produce a variety of unique sounds.

You can buy your Conga Drum or Tumbadora and many other world musical instruments Online at http://www.yourworldinstruments.comOnce you enjoy playing rhythm patterns on your Congas, you can try other Drums like the Djembe, Ashiko, Bongo Drums and enjoy their distinctive sound and styles.

The Future is Unwritten-DVD Documentary

Julien Temple, one of the early documentarians of the London punk scene and director of the 2000 Sex Pistols film The Filth and the Fury, turns his attention now to that other seminal British band: The Clash--or more accurately, to the band's co-founder, lyricist, rhythm guitarist and lead singer, Joe Strummer. The Future is Unwritten is more than just a biography of Strummer; it is a tribute and exploration of a musician, artist and devoted humanist. Though Temple respects and admires Strummer (his influence is exalted by close friends, peers and fans like Bono and John Cusack), he doesn't romanticize this larger-than-life personality and presents Strummer honestly and not always in flattering light, though the director's fondness for his subject is constant. Most movingly, Strummer himself provides the narration via reassembled excerpts from a variety of interviews and the BBC radio show he hosted during the nineties. In the wrong hands, this could be contrived, but in this masterful documentary it serves as a testament to not just Joe Strummer the myth, but Joe Strummer the man, telling us his story in vivid detail. The Future is Unwritten is a moving and personal portrait of a musician who helped shaped not just punk, but modern music as a whole. --Kira Canny
Customer Review: Amazing movie about a rock legend
There have been several movies made about Joe Strummer but Julien Temple's is unique in its personal touch. Temple was a friend of Strummer's for many years and so had insight into the man behind the music that many people did not have. The movie consists of Joe's life story as told by many friends, acquaintances, fellow artists and others who knew him or were influenced by him over the years. Amazing music, very well put-together, and just a great story about a man who was a huge influence on rock & roll and politics during his time on this earth. Joe was taken from the world too early when he died unexpectedly in December 2002 and after watching this movie one can only wonder what more he would have accomplished. The opening scene of Joe singing "White Riot" a capella in the studio is complemented by the closing scene of Joe and Mick Jones reuniting on stage 20+ years later to perform the same song...even though they were old (and Mick a little bald!) they still ROCKED. If you like the Clash, you must see this movie!!

The most popular wii dance games for the Nintendo has thus far been the Dance Dance Revolution or aka. DDR Hottest Party.

DDR was created by the Tokyo based company Konami Corporation which dates back to 1973, they were famous for titles like frogger, scramble and Super Cobra. When Dance dance Revolution Hottest party first came to the US in 2007 it won huge applause, partially due to the fact that it was the only wii dance games that contained the one of a kind dance pad controller.

What makes DDR so different is that using a traditional dance pad with a Wii remote requires participants to match controller movements with the remote and the Nunchuck attachment as well as do the dance steps at the same time. This new innovation causes the whole body workout, giving the top part or your arms something to do as well, which upto now has always been solely focused on feet movements. The game supports up to four players at a time.

If you never heard of or played DDR then some explanations are in order. It's a rhythm game that has you stepping all over a dance mat to hit arrows that match the corresponding arrows on the screen. All this takes place to a the beat of a popular dance track. If your new to this lookout cause it isn't easy, you will have a hard time to keep from tripping over your own feet. Whereas veterans will be hopping back and forth, seemingly hitting all the arrows with ease. The diamonds correspond to hand movements and the arrows to feet movements. The game offer 3 different Play options namely: Free Play , Groove Curcuit, and workout mode.

Lets have a closer look at this game and see what some of the pros and cons are. Whatever method you choose to play Hottest Party appears pretty good. The colors of the game are bright and vivacious, the surroundings are neat and the game characters feel right and are well animated. DDR features extra backup dancers that are an unneeded visible touch, the main character should have been rendered larger, but nonetheless the game looks decent. The audio sounds for the most part ok with a list of approximately fifty tracks. They tried to put something in the music list for everyones taste. The announcer tends to be somewhat of a nuisance, who either compliments you or insults you all at the same time. Kind of like saying "you are really good at sucking!" Might get to you after a while, those kind of comments. DDR comes with one dance pad included, for multiple players each will have to obtain it's own dance pad.

Unfortunately there are not alot of other choices in the Wii dance games niche. There is Dancing with the stars which has received less than good reviews. Which also has dance pad incompatibility problems with the dancepad offered by DDR Hottest Party.

These type of get off the couch Wii dance games are gaining in popularity. I don't think the game will convert the player into the next Fred Astaire but will definitely give you a good work out.

Getting There from Here

Muse is a three-piece band from the UK that plays rock music for future generations. They incorporate synth, distorted guitars, amazing bass lines and powerful drums to create music about this world and the worlds beyond this one. The band has previously released many albums and a live DVD. This second live DVD, called HAARP, includes a live CD of the performance at Wembley Stadium, and also features many of the band's instantly recognized songs, including "Starlight," "Knights of Cydonia," "Hysteria," "Supermassive Black Hole," and more!

This product offers a live concert in both audio and video form with both a CD and DVD recording of their live set at a packed Wembley Stadium from two sold-out performances in June 2007.. The quality is excellent in both audio and visual aspects. There are a few visual affects that enhance the performance, and at times you can hear the crowd singing along to the songs.

One of the great aspects of HAARP is that it showcases the range of the band's music and the powerful performances they are known to give. Fans of classical, metal, rock, pop, synth, dance and more will love this band and this DVD/CD set! Muse incorporates many types of music into their own style. They blend classical styles with very modern sounds and a touch of futuristic themes exist in the band's music, as well.

The quality of performance this band puts on is well-captured on this DVD & CD set. I had the pleasure of witnessing a live performance by Muse three years ago, and HAARP captures their live magic perfectly!

After purchasing this set myself, I've been listening to it over and over again! Those around me may soon tire of having this play on repeat, but I know I won't! That isn't to say HAARP has no downfalls. There is a lack of special features on the DVD, plus a few songs from the performance didn't make it to the final product. Still, it's worth the buy.

Muse has a tendency to make their audience feel magical, revolutionary and powerful, as only the music of this band can make you feel.

I believe any fan of the band will fall in love with this and also fans of music in general will appreciate it on many levels. It's also easy to see why Muse is so often called the best live act of our time. Not only do two sold out nights at Wembley Stadium attest to that claim, but the quality of the performance and the love of their fans also prove the claim to be quite true.

X & Y

Music is an important part of the
celebration of your marriage. Throughout history, music has been used for
weddings to bring the community together with sounds and rhythms that have the
power to surpass age and status buriers, uniting everyone in support of your
marriage.

When choosing music for your wedding (in addition to your personal preferences)
its important to consider the musical tastes and desires of your guests. A good
point to consider is that your wedding (reception and/or ceremony) is an
opportunity for you to give back to your guests for their participation and
support, so choose a musical selection that will appeal the most to your guests.

Music is also a great stress reliever or ice breaker because it helps people
to relax and transition from what is often a very formal situation to an
environment where people can express themselves more fully.

There are 2 general types of music available for a modern wedding, they are:

1) A DJ

2) Live Musicians

A DJ (which stands for Disk Jockey) is a person who plays CDs through a sound
system at your reception and provides stage lighting for additional effect. The
advantage to hiring a DJ is that they are typically less expensive than live
musicians, and you can have all the songs that you want played for your
reception.

The disadvantages to hiring a DJ are that the music can sometimes seem a bit
generic or un-lively, and may be inappropriate for your ceremony. Some people
may also feel that DJ music is cheesy or uninteresting due to the lack of
musical flexibility and depending on the DJs individual approach - you may or
may not want to have them emcee for the reception.

Hiring live musicians is the other option you have for your wedding music. This
is typically more expensive and may involve a bit more planning than a DJ, but
can be a very uplifting resource for you and your wedding guests.

How do you envision your wedding reception? Do you want to dance with your
guests or are you intend to have a more subdued event? If you dont want
dancing, you may choose classical or jazz musicians to entertain - This could
include a string quartet, a harpist, pianist or any other type of soloist.
(Soloists are often the first choice for wedding ceremonies as well).

If you DO intend for there to be dancing as a part of your wedding celebration
theres nothing better for this than a live dance band! The advantage to hiring
a live band for your reception is that there is a certain synergy that occurs
when live musicians perform together that cannot be achieved with a DJ, and live
musicians can are also able to adapt to the vibe of the room playing faster,
slower, louder or softer depending on the preferences of you and your guests.

Skilled wedding musicians can also allow for members of the wedding party to participate by singing along or joining in with the band. This can add a great
deal of value to your wedding reception by creating the great Kodak Moments
that everyone will remember for years and years to come.

Take your time and consider the options carefully. Use the internet to research
your options and look in local wedding trade journals for musician and DJ
listings before you hire. Make a list of questions and concerns that you may
have and ask them of your perspective entertainers.

Your wedding day is YOUR DAY make it great with music that compliments
the theme and emotion that you want reflected at your wedding.

There are many books on jazz and jazz lessons available at online shopping sites like Amazon, but these books can be somewhat cold for the learner, because there is no communication between the author of the method and the student. This is just one of the reasons people turn to online guitar lessons.

Why people prefer online courses as opposed to conventional books:

1. Some Online courses are paid for in monthly instalments which are usually much cheaper than paying a jazz master for weekly classes. This is thanks to the amount of people they can reach worldwide. The more students they have, the less they need to charge each student to cover their operating costs and salaries. Some courses are even a one time payment, so you will not be charged again!

3. You get unlimited access to lessons whenever you want to study, and just like with books, the added advantage that you can learn at your own pace. ...Even at 3 o'clock in the morning.

4. Most guitar online courses have contact information for you to use if you need help with anything you do not understand, or something you are having trouble with.

5. These courses also make use of multimedia tools like mp3 downloadable backing tracks and examples of the exercises being learned; videos so you can see the exercises being executed by a real teacher or teachers, and software helpers like chord finders and tuners, which often come free with your subscription.

Final words

The best way to learn jazz is, no doubt, having your own private mentor to show you what you need to learn, when you need to learn it, and the best way to achieve your end goals. But conventional lessons are expensive and many wanting to expand their musical skills may have obligations which limit their being able to attend lessons at conventional times.
